Review Of The Ambrosia Concert In Albany, NY On June 10th, 1999
By John Sgroi

About 4,200 people came to Albany’s Corning Preserve on the banks of the Hudson River to Hear Ambrosia play on June 10th. This was an exciting show right from the start. We considered ourselves fortunate to have the four original members togther on our turf. David Pack and Joe Puerta delighted us with their incredible combination of voice that is Ambrosia’s trademark. They delighted us with a variety of music both new and old.

They seem to have an uncanny feel for what the audience wants to hear.

The band was tight, and strong. They stared with 2 new songs, then played "you’re the only woman" with a responsive crowd singing way in the back. They sang a great new song called "freak show" then "the haunting time waits for no one, Then "how much I feel" added the funk.

David gave us a beautiful acoustic solo in "life beyond L.A.". it was slow and sad and came across heartfelt, mid song joe changed the tempo to dynamic, David grabbed his electric guitar and young and old were on there feet. The crowd just loved it.

Chris North on the Hammond B3 organ was a show all in himself, Tollak complemented him on a Korg and Roland. "Hopes and dreams", written by joe is a beautiful song unfortunately Tollack’s vocals were not loud enough.

"Living in Angola" was flawlessly done. They did a version or the beatles "magical mystery tour", it added a bit of sobriety transporting the singing crowd back to a different time. We were dazzled by their blues. David just slew everyone with " I keep holding on to yesterday". Dancing broke out between lovers with "you’re the biggest part of me", and we laughed to catch the police on huge draft horses smiling and singing but turning stone faced when they realized we were looking. Of course we had a Encore! This was a great concert, Albany just loved Ambrosia.!!!
