to "[email protected]"... how the
hell did you get that address!! ;)
The first time I heard Family
was on VIDEO... I rented the Dutch
Festival "Stamping Ground" from my local
vid store, just to see Pink Floyd.
I do remember hearing a sloppy, ugly
slab of rock with a freaked out singer,
but I wouldn't remember it till later.
As I probably mentioned 1000 times in
the ole Family pages, I wore out a copy
of the 1983 Rolling Stone Encyclopedia
of Rock and Roll (I'm on my second
copy), and worshiped it as a tome of
rock scripture. The FAMILY entry always
caught my eye, describing the "eclectic
progressive rock" and the "goatish
vibrato" singer. Well a couple of years
later, living in Boston and blowing all
I could earn on used CD's, I found
A SONG FOR ME. The guitar was what
hooked me, and I thought the singer was
grating, yes, but tolerable. Yet
another CD to have friends laugh at me
for my musical tastes. Second CD:
probably the BBC Concert disc. The
opening drums of that disc's "Burlesque"
have fueled many beginnings to a good
evening.
